The NCCE, in collaboration with the Gambia Federation of The Disabled, completed the Seminar to Support the Advocacy for The Participation of PWDs in The Gambiaโs Electoral Processes.
Funded by the UNDP The Gambia and implemented in close collaboration with the Gambia Federation Of The Disabled., the activity was implemented in all the regions with nearly 300 participants, mainly PwDs, regional authorities, youth, and women leaders.
The main objective of the seminar was to enlighten, advocate and encourage support and participation of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the countryโs political processes. The activity also seeks to identify bottlenecks to PWDs participation in politics and devise approaches to ameliorate them ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Participants, mainly PwDs and other critical stakeholders in the regions highlighted the need for electoral reforms that prioritize accessibility, including the provision of assistive devices and the training of electoral staff to accommodate the needs of PwDs in the elections
